School is back in session. After summer’s frenzy of activities, it can be nice to settle back into a routine.
The same is true for us here at the UU Church. After the in-gathering, RE classes will begin again, and we will kick off our Stewardship campaign. Fellowship groups and committees are welcoming new members and volunteers.
It’s a great time to sit back and think about how the church operates. We rely on the guidance of a small but capable staff, the Board of Trustees, and a number of highly motivated volunteers, from committee chairs to RE teachers to those who sit on the many committees, always willing to lend a hand.
With so many volunteers, so many people, so many new faces, the church has to have policies and guidelines. Some of them are obvious — such as who plays the piano on Sundays, who must attend monthly board meetings. Others are less clear to people who are new or not as involved.
Over the next several months, we will make an effort, via the Lighted Chalice, Order of Service, Meridian Update, or other methods of communication, to make clear how some of these procedures operate, and how they benefit
members of the congregation. You’ll see in this current issue of the Lighted Chalice, for example, a note on scheduling events and building use. These policies are in place for a variety of reasons — including safety — but bottom line, it’s about making sure all members of the congregation have a chance to enjoy the various offerings here at the church.
Board Meetings are on the third Tuesday of the month at 6.30 pm; Program Council meets on the first Tuesday. Feel free to attend if you’d like to get involved or find out more about how things run around here. Knowing whom to
call or whom to approach with questions will help make a smooth transition into this new church year.
