Minister’s Musings: August Haikus

The heat of August
Turns the leaves of dying trees
Prematurely brown.

Hurry and relax.
The last sunsets of summer
Come earlier now.

Fresh corn on the cob,
Watermelon seeds to spit.
Too much zucchini.

Brimstone patio,
Hotter than the devil’s home
As you barbeque.

Air conditioning
In the dog day afternoon
Feels like salvation.

When it is so hot,
Why does one long for winter?
Enjoy sweltering.

When it is so cold,
Why does one long for summer?
Enjoy bundling.

The June bug is dead
And fireworks have burned away.
Live each August day.

Our days are numbered,
So make each one eternal.
It is always now.

Blessings to all, Rev. Charlie
