Minister’s Musings: One Love for All

Where does love come from? The holiest of human experiences makes life sacred.
The source of love may be the universe itself. Once contained in a singularity, all matter was an unfathomable black hole before the big bang. Like the universe, love expands one beyond deep dark loneliness. The Bible says that the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. Until God said “Let there be light.” Relationship was not possible until the universe was separated. Though we are separate love is what binds us together.

The source of love is holy. People have many names for the holy: God, Brahman, The Tao, Nature and many more. What ever we name the source of love, we are all called to live in love. Jesus told his disciples to love their enemies. This suggests that no one can be excluded from perfect love. On the cross Jesus is reported to have said, “Forgive them for they know not what they are doing.” Thus ignorance is an excuse. An atheist may think a believer is ignorant of science. A believer may think an atheist is ignorant of faith. Most religions persecute others who they think are ignorant of the correct faith. But what we think is not the most important. We are called to love and to forgive what we perceive as ignorance in others. Instead of restricting our concept of truth to the limits of our understanding, love helps us expand our wisdom and include every one.

If God exists at all then God is love.
If love exists at all, then love is God.
If love and God are one, there is one love for all.

Blessings to all,
Rev. Charlie
