COMMITTEE & GROUP NEWS

SOCIAL JUSTICE:

  • The UU Social Justice Committee continues to be extremely busy engaging in activities with other community groups to oppose HJR-6, a bill coming before the Indiana legislature in January that would amend the Indiana constitution to state that marriage in our state must be between a man and a woman. There is much to be done in the social justice arena; if you are interested in becoming involved in our activities, please join us at our next meeting–Thursday, January 9 at 7:00 pm in Room 101-103. Joan Marshall, Co Chair.
  • CONGREGATIONAL FOOD DRIVE LUM/ST.JOHN’S FOOD PANTRY. During the month of February, the Social Justice Committee will sponsor a food drive in coordination with Lafayette Urban Ministry. Please drop food items off in Fellowship Hall in the boxes labeled thusly. Thank you.
  • LAFAYETTE URBAN MINISTRY  CHRISTMAS JUBILEE!  A success; read an update here.
  • FAMILY PROMISE We wish to welcome Gabriela Weaver and Mike Tripodi as our new UU. Family Promise Coordinators. Many thanks to Joshua Prokopy for his dedicated service.
  • WOMEN’S SHELTER COLLECTION: The women’s shelter is in desperate need of supplies.  Read more here.
  • FREEDOM INDIANA. With only a few short weeks to the start of the legislative session (January 6th), we need to show our local legislators just how much we are willing to stand up for LGBT families and oppose HJR-6. Join us for a rally January 4th at 2:00 pm at Sylvia’s Brick Oven (625 Columbia Street, Lafayette). The Mayor of West Lafayette will be speaking, among others. We need all of our supporters there so that together we can defeat this harmful amendment once and for all!  JeanMarie Gossard, In-District Organizer, Freedom Indiana, 765-239-9477
